StreetArt Against COVID

The Street Art Against COVID project set out to document and promote the street art works that emerged in Porto during the long months of lockdown and the pandemic. Street Art Against COVID showcases the art that continued to be created on the streets of Porto, demonstrating that the city’s artistic and tourism potential never diminished.

Between April 2020 and January 2022, the researchers of the StreetArtCEI project used their experience and working methods to document the street art routes that emerged on the streets of Porto during the lockdowns, as well as the works that portrayed the pandemic crisis itself. This gave rise to the Street Art Against COVID spin-off project, with the mission of showing that street art had continued to reinvent itself on the streets of Porto.

Street Art Against COVID won the 3rd phase of the Santander University UNI-COVID19 Award, promoted by Banco Santander Totta in response to the emergency situation caused by the pandemic crisis, with the aim of highlighting and supporting initiatives with a social impact developed by the academic community in this adverse context.

Street Art Against COVID was also the theme of the zine launched in September 2021, in a numbered edition of 100 copies featuring contributions from artists, researchers and young research fellows.
